Porch Destruction #2

Another GREAT Saturday!  We got so much accomplished and we are so near to getting this HUGE project completed.

We found this packing crate board under the cabin.  Fred G. Baker is Grandpa's grandfather, born in 1854.  I love being 'linked' like this to other generations at our cabin.

First we took off the front siding and saved it to use later, now we are exposed to the world.  Jason Henry came up to help, we were there by 8:00 am

Grandpa was the 'Keeper of the Fire'.  We kept burning the old wood all day

JS West finally arrived an hour late to deliver the wood

Dropped off in the driveway.  Wow, this is a lot of wood

Now we laid out the boards for the carpenters

First post up and metal brackets nailed on

Berry kept busy with Grandpa keeping the fire stoked

Boards are leveled two ways and Steve, Matt, Mark and Nick hammered in all the brackets

Leveling was a big deal during this stage

I think this is called 'framing it in'.  Putting the boards around the outside.  We also learned how to 'weave' the wood.  Thank you Scott

Now we fed boards to Mel, Nick and Brock for the next level of wood, called a joist.

We had visitors..Bob Haas' mother.  Her parents owned the cabin across the street where the Millers now live.

Decking is going one

The front deck is on, the wood is green and when it shrinks it should create the space between the boards.  The skirting on the front is up and on and the porch was actually painted at night with the car lights shining on it.
