Porch Frames

I am going to try and show you this HUGE project going on at the cabin.  WOW!  Thank you Mel and Nick!

First you begin by digging holes 20 inch by 20 inch and 12 inches deep.
Here is what it looks like with just the raw land, however from the street you can't tell what is being done.  Everything is being done up to code.

Lots and lots of holes, 18 to be exact!

Then you add this rebar concrete box for the bottom of each hole for strength.
Then you mix bags of concrete, 300 pounds per hole to be exact.

Nick mixing and pouring pounds and pounds of cement.
They mixed this entire pallet of concrete.

More concrete.

After the holes are filled you put the frame on top and fill some more.
Make sure those frames are filled, lined up and leveled perfectly.

Next you add hardware to hold the posts in place.
Ready to go!

Inspector Morphy learning the trade

Here are 5 of the frames ready for wood posts
In the meantime, Uncle Mel is leveling the cabin and cleaning up some of the dry rot on the siding.

Preparing and cleaning the beams

Treatment of anti-fungal chemicals to protect the wood against the weather and dry rot

Adding flashing that will again protect the wood when the snow gets packed in the corners

More wood that stablizes, supports and looks pretty
Happy boys just doing a days work.  We can't thank Mel and Nick enough for doing this project!  It's beautiful!  See you on Saturday, 8:00 am
